Confusion Surrounds Point Principal's Indecent Conduct Citation

Point Principal Jim Walters was issued a summons for lewd and indecent conduct Monday.

KSDK is reporting that Jim Walters, the principal of Point Elementary School was issued a public indecency summons from an incident that occurred over the weekend.

The ticket said the officer "observed subject Walters grab his genitals while talking to a man in a vehicle who later confessed to what was happening."

Walters was issued a citation on the charges and is required to appear in court on April 24.

The incident happened in Forest Park near Concourse and McKinley, according to the citation issued to Walters.

"I've been told that it's a misunderstanding and I've been told that it'll clear itself up in a couple of days," Mehlville School District Superintendent Eric Knost told Patch. "I'm not going to pass judgment on any situation. I've been told by him the facts that Channel 5 reported are inaccurate."

KSDK reported that the principal exposed himself to a Washington University student who was driving the vehicle. The ticket made no mention of an exposure.

The school district is on spring break, which makes an investigation difficult, Knost said.

A copy of the citation is available to the right under the photo.

This man is married and has two children. Until the incident is thoroughly investigated and ruled on, it is grossly UNFAIR to reveal his name, occupation and workplace to anyone other than to the administration of the school. This man's life could be OVER, and his kids could be permanently scarred as a result of various reporters and would-be newscasters who are trying like hell to increase their viewership! I find this to be disgusting. I seriously hope the policeman actually saw what he reported and that the entire eposode wasn't a case of wishful thinking!

Mike, the park rangers are merely 2 day trained armed security guards. They are not real police ( real police are P.O.S.T certified or peace officer standardized training - state certified). This would be the equivalent of a K-Mart or Saveway guard making these statements. I was a park ranger there and know exactly what it was. And more....

My kids attend Point, and they have always loved Mr Walters. I don't see the "spin" that the media tried to put on this, being possible. I think, however, that whatever did happen, shouldn't have. When you are someone in a position like his, you have to be 100% responsible at all times. My kids saw the news story at 5pm yesterday, and they were shocked, and very very upset. How do they get back the absolute belief that they have had in him for the last five years??? Its going to be very very hard, if not impossible. :( We are so sad........
That being said, if you look at the citation, that KSDK was so kind to link people to, you would see that said "officer" cannot even spell correctly. Does he/she need glasses maybe??? Could be that what he/she "saw" wasn't even what they thought, and WHO is the Wash U student?? Why is that persons name not being used? There are many many gaps in this story, and for the inconsistancies, someone's life is being ruined. Makes me very very sad, for our entire Point community.

I feel for you Robyn. While my kids do not attend Point, they do go to a district school. We were also watching the news and they heard the story as well. You are right when you say that being an educator, you have to be responsible 100% of the time. Seems to me there are a lot of holes in this story. I hope the situation gets cleared up soon!

The media should have reported on this because as a parent, I'd want to know. Yes there are uncertainties, but the citation is a charge so it's not like anyone was making things up.

I'm glad Patch pointed out the differences between KSDK and the citation. I hope its not true, but you never know.

Agreed, Rachel, that the story should be reported. As a parent, I also want to know FACTS. The problem that I have, is that the so-called "facts" that KSDK had reported, do not match up to what the actual "citation" states. They have embellished from what is written on paper. So.......where did the information come from?? Thats my problem with the media, they run something that is SO incredibly damaging, to not only the man himself, but to his family, and his students/teachers/parents, without having absolute proof of what they are saying.....if they do have "proof", then they need to publish their source. I just wish that they would think before they report, sometimes. I am a parent of two fourth grade girls at that school, and my kids are now so upset over this. And it could simply be for something simple, such as adjusting himself while talking (tons of men do that constantly) or even making a "pit stop" alongside two cars, and not checking to make sure there wasnt someone sitting in them..........again, something men tend to do. I don't know.........its just not ringing quite truthful on my end of things. My kids have been there with him from the beginning of his time, five years ago, and never once, have I ever had reason to question his abilities and his standards. JMO, however........

I think the news always runs with things. Mr. Walters is a good person and principal.

Here is why I am not giving Mr. Walters the benefit of the doubt: Mr. Walters lives in deep South County, yet he drives all the way to Forest Park to jog? I know it's not illegal, but who wants to drive that far just to jog? He will spend twice as long driving to and from the park as would jogging. Again, it's not illegal, but it sure is illogical. While out for a jog, he decides to pop his head into the car window of a stranger sitting alone? The area the car is parked is apparently known for lewd conduct, hence the park ranger on surveillance. Walters fondles himself while talking to another male (I'm not clear if he exposed himself or fondled himself through his clothing). He then follows the car as it leaves to a different location. The driver told the park ranger their plans and the ranger deemed it necessary to cite Walters for lewd conduct. Sorry, but if it walks like a duck............

One reason for Mr. Walters to be optimistic is that this summons was issued by a park ranger for St. Louis City Municipal Court. A good attorney could probably get this reduced to a lesser charge.

I have to give Mr. Walters credit, because he must be a good principal, or at least charismatic. I hear that a lot of parents and teachers are defending him, despite the mountain of circumstantial evidence I listed above. It kind of reminds me of Hillary Clinton's "vast right-wing conspiracy" defense when the accusations of Bill's affair with Monica were first reported.

First off, have the stones yourself to use your real name.

Last time I checked, we are in America, and you ARE innocent until proven otherwise...The "ranger" needs to go through retraining to even be able to spell or write a complete sentence...The damage has already been done prior to Mr. Walters even having a chance to tell his side of the story. There is no conspiracy here. Now more than ever this family needs their friends to help support them during this time.

Okay, well, first off, whatever your name is or isn't.........have you ever trained for a 5k? My girls both take part in them twice a year, and they are both based in Forest Park. If there is a 5k, in that park, that he is training for, maybe he finds it more beneficial to train on the same route that he will be running???? Did you ever stop to think of that? Nowhere, anywhere, did I see stated that anyone "popped their head into a car window"........And, the citation issued did NOT match anything that was reported on the news channel. Who is the driver? How do you know that he told anyone anything about any "plans"?? And really, a PARK RANGER???? Who, by the way, clearly cannot spell simple words. Or, like stated earlier, cannot write in complete sentences. Perhaps that PARK RANGER needs a pair of glasses??? And, yes, Jim Walters is a GREAT principal. All the kids love him, and its clearly not because he chooses to run in a park that is not close to home. He is GREAT with our kids. Do you have kids? Do they like their schools? If you do, and they do, then you would understand why we stand behind our principal.

Many people go to Forest Park to run. So you are saying J. that if I drive to Forest Park to run that I am going there for something else? I think I would go there because it is a beautiful park. Or maybe to prepare for an upcoming run there. Maybe these rangers are out looking for something that isn't really there. We don't have all the facts so until we do I will support this man because of the FACTS that I know about him.

As a broadcaster myself… I am trying to figure out how your Satint Louis Area media can just make stuff up in their stories. I’ve reviewed the summons in the Dr. Walter’s matter…. And the stories quote the summons are not even close to accurate. NO WHERE in the summons does it suggest Mr. Walter’s was in his car, in fact he was not… he was jogging in the park and no where in the summons does it say he exposed himeself. One story even says he was mastrubating.. these stories along with the other false accusation places it all completely out of context. Saint Louis media has clearly taken liberty with the summons and made some assumptions that cross a line and are VERY dangerous. I realize the issue of whether he was in the car or not may make no difference to you given the summons charge…… but the true story which will prevail on this matter will make Saint Louis media look foolish to have even suggested what they have here.

Saint Louis Media.... Get your facts straight… get your story straight. Your coverage is irresponsible and demeans the credibility of your overall news product in my opinion.
