Letter to the Editor: Stop the Donuts

Resident Shannon Myers expresses her concerns over a Dunkin' Donuts that may be coming to the area.

I have taught at Jazzercise for 13 years. Now they are threatening to knock us down to put up a Dunkin' Donuts! Really, isn’t Telegraph congested enough without putting in another fast food drive-thru restaurant?

This will make it more unsafe and will put my boss at Jazzercise out of business. A year ago, she remodeled the place and spent over $6,000 in improvements. If they knock us down, she will be out this money and we will be without a home.

The man who put through the petition supposedly put up a sign in the Plaza prior to the initial hearing. I never saw this sign nor did any of the customers. It was eventually found lying down outside. We only found out because one of our instructors works for MoDOT and coincidentally saw the notice of a petition filed.

With more time to prepare, we would have attended the initial Public Hearing, but no one knew until it was too late.

We are now writing letters in opposition trying to save our place. This really stinks and was done sneaky and back-handed.

The public should know what kind of businessman might be moving in the area, how much more dangerous Telegraph Road will be and how an established businesswoman is about to lose everything!

Jazzercise is more than a business though, we are a close knit family because we are all healthier and happier. We have other instructors and students who have lost between 50-100-plus pounds. Women have gone off medications, lowered blood pressures, the list goes on. How crazy is it to take a place that promotes healthy living and knock it down it put up a donut place!

If they insist on building a Dunkin' Donuts, why not at the south-east corner of Telegraph and Pottle where the old car wash sits?

There are plenty of empty business to put in a Dunkin Doughnuts. Example: the now closed El Pollo Loco on Lemay Ferry, Wendy's on Lemay Ferry, Valvoline on Lemay Ferry. We don't need anymore food places on Telegraph. Not only that, but any food place that occupied the Jazzercise spot before never lasted.

Another doughnut shop is the last thing we need. Especially if we have to sacrifice Jazzercise for it. That's just crazy.

Looks like the area agrees with me. I haven't seen one person that wants this place where they want to put it yet! Maybe these people should wake up and listen to the people and save their money and let Jazzercise stay where it belongs!!

Having a watchdog on whether or not a donut shop opens has as many holes as the donuts. If you make a choice to live a "healthy" diet then don't go eat donuts. Is the temptation that great? There are plenty of other places to eat. It is all about the choices we make. I choose donuts!!

That is fine Robert but don't knock down a place that promotes healthy living to put up a donut stop. Find another place to put it! We were here first!
