Mehlville Defeats Priory in Founders Cup Hockey Final
Third period goal by Championship MVP Jacob Schaefer seals the deal for the Panthers.
Mehlville Hockey stood strong against Priory in the Founders Cup Championship game Monday night, defeating the Rebels 3-2 at Queeny Park's Greensfelder Recreation Complex.
The Panthers' Jacob Schaefer netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner at the 11:38 mark in the the third period.
Priory was led by Ben Kraus, who answered a pair of Mehlville goals in the first period with two of his own within a two-minute stretch.
"That's a typical Mehlville hockey, I tell you we've had some leads before and we've blown them before," Mehlville Head Coach Jim Arno said after his team had received medals and the championship plaque for their performance. "Credit to Priory because they're a very good team, very fast, they have a great system when they break out and everything," he said.
Arno said he told his club in the final intermission to win the last period, and they did, with Schaefer's difference-maker in the third.
Mehlville claims the Founders Cup title with wins over Timberland and Whitfield.
