There's a new trail in the area and it connects Jefferson Barracks Park all the way up to River des Peres.

Local officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the trail Saturday morning at the Freedom River Walk.

The 1.8-mile path is part of the Great Rivers Greenway District's River Ring and goes along the Mississippi River through historic areas in Jefferson Barracks.

The 12-foot-wide path is handicapped-accessible and officials from Great Rivers Greenway predict many veterans will use the asphalt trail.

The trail was paid for through federal funds.
