Onkle, Whaley Named to All-Star Baseball Game

Thirty-four St. Louis area high school seniors will play in an all-star game on June 16 at Busch Stadium.

The second annual Smiles League Coaches' Choice High School Seniors All-Star baseball game players were announced Sunday outside of Busch Stadium.

The game will be played on June 16 following the 1:15 p.m. St. Louis Cardinals vs. Kansas City Royals game. Admission to the All-Star game is free.

Mehlville and Oakville High Schools each had one player selected for the Green Team. Seniors Aaron Onkle from Mehlville and Brian Whaley from Oakville will play on the same team for the all-star game.

Cardinals alumni players Scott Cooper and Kerry Robinson will coach the two teams. This is the second year for both coaching in the all-star game.

Cooper is a St. Louis native who played high school baseball for Pattonville, spent seven years in the major leagues, and was a member of the American League All-Star team in 1993 and 1994.

Robinson is also a St. Louis native. He was a 3-sport athlete for Hazelwood and played for the Tampa Bay Rays, and was a Cardinal from 2001-2003. He appeared in postseason play in 2001 and 2002.

Delta Dental of Missouri is a sponsor of the game along with the St. Louis Cardinals. Each All-Star player has signed a tobacco-free pledge, acknowledging they do not smoke or chew, and outlining their willingness to advocate no-smoking and no-chewing choices among Missouri's youth.
