Our Lady of Providence Reigns in Fish Fry Food Fight

St. Justin the Martyr Catholic Church finished a close second.

It was a spirited Food Fight this week as the battle of the South County fish frys generated 1,313 votes in our friendly competition.

After all the votes were in, Our Lady of Providence Catholic Church in Crestwood was at the top of the fish fry heap with 533 votes, 40 percent of the total.

The runner-up in our Fish Fry poll was St. Justin the Martyr Catholic Parish in Sunset Hills. It garnered 510 votes, 38 percent of the total. Close behind was Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church in Affton with 225 votes (17 percent).

One St. Justin patron was effusive in her praise of the St. Justin fish fry.

"St. Justin has the best fish as well as the best sides. Dot's Coleslaw is the stuff of legends!" Peggy Behnen said in a comment.

Fish frys, by the way, will be continuing through the Lenten season until Easter. If you're looking for a sampling of local fish, you may want to consult with the Patch Fish Fry Finder.

Some readers this week were curious about the photo that accompanied the Food Fight Fish Fry vote article and also is included with this article. The fried fish photo in question was taken at St. Paul Catholic Church in Fenton.

Voting in our Patch Fish Fry Food Fight poll started Thursday morning and ended at 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.

We look forward to hearing from you again next week with the next edition of our weekly Reader's Choice competition.

And congratulations to Our Lady of Providence parishioners for being our fish fry favorite.
