Nearly 70 residents in Mehlville and Oakville graduated from the Citizens Police Academy Thursday and now have a firmer grasp of police work.

The academy was a nine-week course aimed at giving the public a closer look at the different departments and facets of the St. Louis County Police Department.

The South County Precinct Neighborhood Policing Officers hosted the academy, which is the largest in the County.

Classes included visits from the K-9 and drug units, and a field trip to the Police Academy. The precinct graduated 69 residents and will have another academy in 2012.

What a great time. I learned alot from and gained a new respect for all of the police officers in St. Louis County. I encourage everyone to sign up for the Citizens Acaemy to learn about, meet and support our amazing officers as well as others members of our community.

This was such an interesting class to learn more about the professionals that work to protect our community. Officer Schira and the other officers were really great to give up their time each week to present the classes or tours of the Police Academy. The sessions really opened our eyes and gives us a stronger appreciation for the talent and dedication that serves St. Louis County and supports surrounding areas. Attending next year's class would really be worth your time.

I really enjoy having the Citizens Police Academy. I feel it gives people the opportunity to meet their local police on a different level. I really enjoy getting to know everyone also. Congratulations to everyone that graduated!!
