South County Bank Robberies a Weekly Worry

There has been at least one bank robbery in South County every week for the last month.

Does it seem like you are reading about bank robberies in the area every week? Well, turns out you are. We counted.

South County has had at least one bank robbery every week for the last month. Here's the list, going back week-by-week.

On Friday, a man made off with cash from Regions Bank, 9100 Gravois in Affton, after implying he had a weapon. Police thought they had him surrounded at the nearby Gardenville Masonic Temple, but in the end did not apprehend the suspect.

On Jan. 24, a security guard detained a bank robber at Southern Commercial Bank, 6969 South Lindbergh Boulevard. Police said the bank hired the security guard after several previous robberies. Later that week, police charged the arrested suspect, Brian J. Schappe, 27, of Florissant.

On Jan. 17, a man demanded money at Jefferson Bank, 5475 Southfield Center, near Ronnie's Cinema. A week later police charged Bryon Gullion, 35 of Mexico, MO, claiming he was the "Logo Hat Bandit" who had perpetrated this and several other area bank robberies.

On Jan. 10, Commerce Bank, 4100 Rusty Road, was robbed. Two days later police charged Gary L. Walker, 24, with robbery in the first degree.

Four bank robberies in four weeks is a worrisome trend, but police made arrests in three of the four cases.

Why do you think we are seeing so many bank robberies this season? Let us know in the comments.

The commanders of the south county areas want the police officers to make more traffic stops than patrol the areas. You never see police officer presence in the subdivisions in affton, oakville, mehville compared to 4-5 years ago.

How would patrolling subdivisions prevent bank robberies?
