About this column:

This is a weekly pet column featuring an adoptable or adorable dog seen at The Watering Bowl.
Look and see, this article features one adorable, lovable, and adoptable pup. This sweet lady knows how to tug at your heartstrings. Look See has lived a rough life, but seems to hold no grudge toward humans. In fact, she seems full of gratitude for having been given a second chance.  Look See, a 4-year-old Shepherd mix, was found living under a van down by the river. I might have added the down by the river part trying to be silly, but her living situation was no laughing matter. Luckily the wonderful folks at Stray Rescue came to her aid and gave her a better life full of shelter, regular …
Like most weeks, I had to Google the Pooch of the Week's name.  After doing so, I'm not completely confident where his name came from.  Everette could be named after the African American blues, jazz and gospel saxophonist, Everette Harp, or the Detroit Lions defensive end, Everette Brown. Wherever Everette's name came from, one this is for sure, this sweet boy is one lovable lab and deserves his happily EVER after! If you are looking for a little Lab to play with during the day and snuggle with at night, then look no further - Everette is your guy!  At first glance, one might think that …
There are so many awesome foster parents out there, and many of them don't get the recognition that they deserve. Stray Rescue, however, honored one foster dad by naming a rescue pooch after him. How cool is that?! I personally have not met the dog, Phil Adams, but based on his brief bio on the Stray Rescue website, it sounds like he is almost as awesome as his namesake! Phil regularly brings his foster dogs to The Watering Bowl. Maura, for example, has been coming since early March.  A lot has changed since Maura was first featured as Pooch of the Week.  In the first article, Maura was …
I often wonder who comes up with some of these Stray Rescue dog names. While perusing the Stray Rescue website, I found some interesting (and adorable) dogs: Harhona, Mr. Belvedere and Boogie Pilgrim just to name a few. These names sometimes make me laugh, introduce me to a TV show or movie, and educate me on the world around me.  I never know what to expect when I hear a Stray Rescue dog’s name. Take this week’s Pooch of the Week, Urquhart, for example.  I had no clue what her name meant.  Thanks, Stray Rescue for introducing me to an awesome dog and teaching me something new! Apparently, …
This week’s Pooch of the Week is such a good boy, that it didn’t come as a surprise that in the span of a week, his status changed from “available for adoption” to “adoption pending.” Congrats, Andrew! This pup truly does deserve the very best!Andrew, a one-year-old Terrier mix, was on his best behavior from the moment the Stray Rescue staff handed him off to TWB staff member. He sat in the back of the car like a gentleman, and eased into the pack without any difficulty. Within minutes he was out there playing with all of his pals as if he had been there 20 times before.   Andrew had an …
This week’s Pooch of the Week has seen the ugly side of people.  Fortunately, because of the folks at Stray Rescue and other caring people, she has also seen the good.  Kazooie was living on the streets with her brother Kage during the 100-plus heat wave earlier in the summer.  On top of dealing with intense heat, the two dogs were also being kicked by people in the neighborhood.  Luckily a kind man stepped up and rescued these two pups from this cruel treatment. This 1-year-old brindle Terrier mix is such a sweetheart.  She enjoys human interaction and does well with other dogs.  The Stray …
Ladies and gentleman, Wonka is back!  This 3-year-old Beagle mix was so excited to come back to The Watering Bowl for a second day of fun with all of his pals.  He leapt into TWB staff member's car and sat like a gentleman in the back seat the entire ride there.  He knew he was in for quite the treat. A Stray Rescue staff and volunteer favorite, this little guy is great at making anyone smile.  Wonka is sure full of personality.  He knows what he wants and won't settle for anything less.  He desperately wants to find his forever home, but understands that finding the right fit sometimes takes…
You know the feeling -  the weekend is over, and a full week is ahead.  Having a case of the Mondays is such a drag.  Luckily, The Watering Bowl has a cure for the Mondays: puppies! An almost 4-month old came to The Watering Bowl on Monday morning, and immediately the mood in the place changed.  Everyone there wanted to play with the adorable, sweet puppy.  This adorable black baby has entranced several staff members at TWB.  If you are looking to add a puppy to your clan in the near future, then look no further.  It is only a matter of time before Clove finds her forever home. Clove came to …
This week's "Pooch of the Week" is a princess. She is spoiled rotten, as she very well should be. Josei is the diva of The Watering Bowl, and we wouldn't have it any of way. Josei, a 1-year-old Shiba Inu, is one of those lucky pups that get to go to The Watering Bowl everyday! She absolutely loves spending her days with all of her furry and human pals.  Josei can be a dainty, prissy girl, but she also knows how to cut loose with her friends and have a good time. She has two favorite activities that she likes to partake in at TWB. The first one is modeling. Josei knows how to strike a pose …
The Watering Bowl is a pup's refuge from this summer heat. Along with cool air conditioning throughout the indoor play area, they have recently upgraded to a super-sized pool that can easily accommodate ten dogs. The dogs, especially Doodles, Labs, Golden Retrievers, and Huskies, can't get enough of it! Some dogs refuse to get out of the pool even when it's time to go home. They would live in that pool if they could. This week's Pooch of the Week, Wonka, wasn't really interested in the big pool, but he took full advantage of the AC, and spent his day at TWB on the move! With the heat wave …
The people of Stray Rescue are amazing; what they do no matter how big or small makes a difference.  Were you able to check out their Summer of Love Adoptathon this past Saturday?  It was a huge success!  With adoption rates reduced to $50, a lot of very lucky pups were able to find their forever home.  The Watering Bowl supports Stray Rescue in everything they do, and their very own Jess even braved the heat to make sure the folks at Stray Rescue knew that.   This week's Pooch of the Week didn't find his forever home on Saturday, but in the minds of TWB staff, it is just a matter of time.  …
This week's "Pooch of the Week" is an over-sized, happy-go-lucky puppy that is going to make someonesuper happy. Everyone that meets this 1-year-old brindle Mastiff/Hound mix immediately falls in lovewith her. She is so sweet, friendly, and outgoing, that it is crazy to believe that just a few short monthsago she was a timid pooch who was afraid of life. Tigris has come a long way in the short time she has been in the care of Stray Rescue. On March 30, 2012 she was found with two large Mastiffs. She was extremely scared and 20 pounds underweight. Itis hard for he Watering Bowl staff to …
Apparently I need to watch more TV. I actually had to Google this week's Pooch of the Week namesake, Colonel Potter. Yes, I have heard of the TV show MASH, I don't live under that big of a rock, I just didn't know any of the characters. Unlike the owner of TWB, however, I knew Colonel Potter was not from the game Clue! Come on, I always guess Colonel Mustard in the library with a candlestick!  Colonel Potter was named after the iconic star because he was found on the day the actor who played Colonel Potter, Harry Morgan, died. Stray Rescue staff and volunteers have shared that he seems to …
Being the typical girl that I am, I had no clue who or what Highlander was named after. All I noticed was that Highlander was an adorable black Lab mix that was on his best behavior in the car. It makes me darn happy when pups are good in the car: it's the little things in life!  As soon as his named was announced at TWB, however, one of the male staff members quickly went on and on about how awesome the films are. Thus, the male bonding with Highlander began. The men were drawn to Highlander because of his name, and the women were drawn to him because of his sweet personality. Highlander is …
The Hungarian Vizsla is an expressive, gentle, and loving breed that needs daily mental stimulation. This breed needs a patient, firm hand, or it will become stubborn and walk all over you. Luckily the folks at The Watering Bowl know what they are dealing with when it comes to Zoli and Bela, this week’s Pooches of the Week. Zoli and Bela are quite the combo. Add Chandler into the mix, and you’ve got a daily TWB party! These three musketeers are constant figures at TWB, for which the staff is extremely grateful. Interesting tidbit about the Vizslas: after World War II when Russia took control …
Smidge is one of the sweetest girls you will ever meet. She has been coming to The Watering Bowl since the beginning of the year, and not once has she caused any problems. This sweetheart stays far away from any drama! The first thing everyone notices about this 1-year-old Shepherd mix is her awesome ears. They are something else! When she is really excited, her ears stick straight up, but when she's tired or looking for attention, they pivot around and stick straight out. Her foster mom thinks she could be Yoda's sister!  After that, people are drawn to her because of her fun-loving, laid …
Mr. Personality is back at The Watering Bowl, and he is loving every minute of it! As mentioned in past articles, Stray Rescue is in dire need of fosters, as they are currently finishing construction on their Pine Shelter. While the construction to build the dogs new and improved apartments is going on, there are 42 less spaces available at the shelter. The Watering Bowl has graciously offered to help. That means that Corey is staying at The Watering Bowl until the construction is finished (Stray Rescue estimates two months) or until he gets adopted. The folks at TWB are determined to help …
The whole “do as I say, not as I do” thing doesn’t fly with me. Therefore, if I suggest that people do something, then expect that I am doing the same.  With that being said, I had no real intention of fostering. After all, I’m a busy gal with two pooches of my own. I can be full of excuses when I want to be. Nonetheless, last Tuesday I was reminded that I need to lead by example - so meet my new foster pup, Pepper! At first glance I thought Pepper was a puppy - she is only 35 pounds and full of energy. Once I got the sheet with all of her information, however, I realized that she is 2 years …
Corey had the time of his life at The Watering Bowl last Monday! He strutted around the play area with comfort and ease. He also had a big smile on his face, and his tail wagged the entire day. This 2-year-old Lab mix has still got some pup left in him, but there doesn't seem to be a mean bone in his body—all he wants to do is play! Corey was stoked to get out of the shelter for the day. He practically dragged TWB employee to her car. On the way to TWB, he had his head out the back window as if he didn't have a care in the world; he was living the life.  The party continued once he got to The…
Brangus may be a brawny, muscular boy, but deep down, he is nothing but a sweet teddy bear. He aims to please his people, and that smile of his usually does the trick.  Not much is known about Brangus's past, but it is obvious that this 2-year-old boy's life was rough before he came to Stray Rescue. Someone found an injured Brangus roaming the streets tired and alone. Although he was in a great deal of pain, Brangus had no apprehension about letting someone rescue him. This choice changed his life forever.  Thank goodness for people that take action. It is easy to turn a blind eye and pretend…
