One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.  Yearly mammography screenings and monthly breast self-exams are the best early detection tools.  The American Cancer Society recommends that women 40 and older get a mammogram every year.

St. Anthony’s Medical Center provides mammography screenings in its Breast Center, which is located in St. Anthony’s Medical Plaza building on Southfork Road, at the corner of Tesson Ferry and Schuessler roads, just behind St. Anthony’s main hospital campus.  The Breast Center offers both traditional mammograms, where X-rays pass through the breast to film, and the new digital mammograms, which use one-third less radiation than traditional mammography.  The digital images are transferred to a computer screen, where they can be magnified for a clearer view of problem areas, eliminating many callbacks.

Screening mammograms also continue to be offered in the hospital’s Radiology department, on the main level of the hospital building at 10010 Kennerly Road in south St. Louis County.
