Mehlville Fire Hosts Open House for Fire Prevention Week

Mehlville Fire Protection District will host a district-wide Open House on Saturday, October 8 from 11am-2pm to kick off Fire Prevention Week.

Each engine house will be open to the public to enjoy a meet and greet with the firefighters, tour the facilities and have an opportunity to talk to the experts about fire safety tips and more.

“We look forward to hosting our Open House for Fire Prevention Week,” said Kevin Reis, Deputy Chief of MFPD. “This is a fun, family-oriented opportunity to have an inside look at what firefighters do on a daily basis.”

Fire Prevention Week’s theme this year is Protect Your Family from Fire. Guests will learn the most effective ways to prevent fire in their homes and discuss the importance of home fire.

“This year’s theme of protecting families from fire stresses the importance of the citizens’ role in fire prevention. This gives us an opportunity to teach residents how to be active in their own fire safety," Reis said.

The event is fun for whole family and includes fire safety coloring books and helmets for children (while supplies last).

Firefighters will also perform rescue equipment demonstrations and discuss other aspects of their jobs. There will be blood pressure and blood glucose checks
available.

Bring your camera as children can have their pictures taken on the fire trucks. All seven engine houses are participating, pending emergency calls. To find the Mehlville fire engine house closest to you or to learn more information, please visit www.mehlvillefire.com.
