German Chocolate Cake Day, Tell Us Your Recipe

Patch partner Fox 2 News welcomed McArthur's Bakery to share some cake history. Watch this video to learn the secret to German chocolate icing.

June 11 is National German Chocolate Cake Day.

It's an excuse to indulge in fluffy, chocolate cake, pecans, caramel and all sorts of sticky goodness but do you know how the chocolate got its name?

An American by the name Sam German developed a sweet baking chocolate for Baker’s Chocolate Company in the mid-1800s.  The product was further popularized a century later by a German's chocolate cake recipe in the Dallas Morning Star, but the possessive has since been dropped, according to CNN.

Patch partner Fox 2 News welcomed Randy McArthur from McArthur's Bakery to share some history of chocolate cake.

Click and watch the video if you'd like to learn the bakery's secret to German chocolate icing.
