Get Out: Charity, Chili and Theater

From rodent races and trivia to cookoffs and local theatre, we've got plenty of fun for you to get out for this weekend.

With everything going on this weekend in South County, there is no excuse to stay in and be bored. Raise money for a good cause with trivia, chili or rodents; catch some local theater or head into the city for a Cajun cook-off.

  • at the VFW
    When/Where:
    6 - 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at VFW Post 4223, 215 Military Rd., Lemay
    Why Go: Who doesn't love watching rodents running around for a good cause? Proceeds go to a group of Lindbergh High grads for a service trip to Africa.
    Pricing: $20

  • When/Where:
    7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Genesis Banquet Center, 2651 Telegraph Rd.
    Why Go: They may be Oakville's rivals, but Mehlville band kids deserve to go to college too. Help raise money for the Mehlville Band's scholarship fund, take your shot at some prizes and get all the wine, beer and snacks you like.
    Pricing: $20 per person, $160 for a team of eight
  • Waiting For Godot at SLCC Meramec Theatre
    When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at SLCC Meramec Campus, 11333 Big Bend Road in Kirkwood.
    Why Go: Waiting for Godot is a comedy about two men amusing with witty dialogue and stunts themselves while they...wait for someone named Godot. Also, it's free theater.
    Pricing: Free
  • in Forest Park
    When/Where:
    12 - 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at World's Fair Pavilion in Forest Park, 5595 Grand Dr.
    Why Go: Face it, you've got to get out of South County sometime to experience all this great city has to offer. Watch cooking demonstrations by professional and amateur chefs competing for best Cajun/Creole dish. Sample delicious food from local restaurants.
    Pricing: $30 in advance, $35 at the door

  • When/Where:
    2 - 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at Occasions Banquet Hall, 9451 Gentry Ave., Lemay
    Why Go: You get to taste a variety of chili recipes from local businesses and vote on the best, while at the same time helping out tornado victims in Sunset Hills.
