The Heat Is On

An excessive heat warning for the St. Louis area remains in effect until Saturday night.

It is no secret that it is a hot one out there, like pretty much every summer in St. Louis. High levels of heat and humidity afflict our area yearly, and the general public should be warned that this week will be particularly dangerous.

Early evening heat index values this week range between 105 and 115 degrees. Those with very young children or elderly loved ones—deemed at-risk demographics for heat-related health issues—should be mindful that the length of this heat wave poses a dangerous health risk. Also, those living with no air conditioning or poorly ventilated homes should get plenty of fans or make their way to a local cooling center.

Oakville residents can get information about cooling centers or energy assistance related to the excessive heat by calling the United Way of Greater St. Louis at 800-427-4626 or simply dialing 2-1-1. Cool Down St. Louis is another resource, which can be reached at 314-241-7668.
