Viewfinder: St. Matthias Fish Fry A Community Affair

More than 700 people came to last Friday's fish fry, an event that combines several community organizations.

Started 14 years ago as a way to raise money for the local Boy Scout troop, St. Matthias fish frys have become a community staple.

"We had 790 people come out one Friday last year and had 757 two weeks ago," said Geri Fogelbach, who organizes the fish fry.

More than just food, the fish fry brings together several community groups. Girl Scout Troop 4277 bakes desserts and sells them and the Mehlville High School Pantherette dance team bus the tables.

The fish fry features hand-sliced cod fillets that are hand-battered and fried, shrimp and a number of sides.

The church will be holding two more fish frys on April 1 and April 15 from 4 to 7 p.m.
