Volunteer for JDRF's Annual Walk for the Cure 2012 in Forest Park
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is expecting 25,000 participants for this year's event, and they'll need a few (hundred) helping hands. Reach out if you're available the weekend of Oct. 5!
JDRF: Improving Lives. Curing Type 1 Diabetes (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is preparing for its annual Walk for the Cure fundraiser in Forest Park on Oct. 7, and they're still in need of volunteers to ensure that a small city's worth of people complete the walk without a hitch.
The non-profit is raising funds for Type I Diabetes (T1D) research. While the disease is commonly known as juvenile diabetes, JDRF Executive Director Marie Davis said they also offer support and resources to the 50 percent of sufferers diagnosed in adulthood. Their focus is not only identifying a medicinal cure, but prevention and treatment.
The event is expected to draw 25,000 participants this year, which Davis likened to a small city occupying the park at once. The organization needs around 400 volunteers between Friday and Monday to help set up, assist the day of, and tear down the event area.
