The Good Doctor

Anton Chekhov is renowned for his mastery of drama; Neil Simon is known for his comedies. But before he became famous for his stage pieces, Chekhov published humorous sketches to help pay for medical school. Simon adapted eight of these short stories for his play The Good Doctor, a "comedy with music" that highlights both writers' fondness for the absurdity of everyday people. A father brings his teenage son to a brothel to teach him about the facts of life, a clerk sneezes on the back of his boss' head and worries about the likelihood of his continued employment, and a man offers to drown himself for the bargain price of three rubles.
