Ex Cops' Bacon Donut Wins 2nd Place at Baconfest

The Ex Cop Donut Shop's maple long john bacon doughnut placed at a bacon-themed celebration in St. Louis city.

Oakville’s best bacon secret is out.

The Ex Cop Donut Shop on Telegraph Road placed second in a competition at Baconfest, a region-wide celebration of all things bacon, with its signature maple long john bacon doughnut.

“Things come and go, but bacon seems like it’s got staying power,” said Frank Loforte, who owns the shop with his wife, Linda. “We’re happy with second place. We got to be get creative with bacon.”

The doughnut tops a fluffy, sweet bread with maple icing and bacon crumpled “so there’s bacon on every bite,” Frank said.

The bacon-flavored ice cream won out over the doughnut.

Frank and Linda met while working for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, as the name suggests. When they married and had a daughter, the couple wanted to move into something safer, so they opened the doughnut shop near their home in Oakville.
