Get Out: Charity, Culture, Chickens and Children’s Fun

Fun activities for adults and children abound this weekend.

The Animal Farm at Suson Park and the Children’s Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden will make you appreciate the beginning of spring. Later, visit the evening venues to unwind and relax with good entertainment and refreshments.

TASK Party with Sh-Boom

Why go: Have fun dancing to nostalgic music and support the workings of TASK (Team Activities for Special Kids). The event includes an open bar, heavy appetizers, dance performances and live and silent auctions.

Animal Farm at Suson Park

When/ Where: 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through October, Suson Park, 6059 Wells Road, 63128

Why go: This weekend kicks off the new season at the Animal Farm where visitors can get a close-up view of rural animals like draft horses, cows, goats, chickens and all kinds of farm friends. A walk through the big, red barn that houses some of the animals is an attraction in itself. The larger animals are only on display on the weekends.

Pricing: Free. You may also schedule tours for groups up to 30 people for $30 or host a “Farm Party” for $100 and up.

Rock On with Steve and Frank Bauer

When/ Where: 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, Frankie G’s, 4565 Chestnut Park, 63129

Why go: Steve and Frank Bauer will have you rocking to the sounds made famous by such groups as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and The Grateful Dead.

Pricing: No cover

“Beehive” Ends the 2011 Season at the Loretto-Hilton Center Mainstage

When/ Where: Through April 10, Loretto-Hilton Center, 130 Edgar Road, 63119. Call for times and ticket information, 314-968-4925

Why go: Enjoy the music of the early ‘60s when girl groups dominated the scene. Celebrate the era listening to 40 songs that capture the mood of the era right before the hippies took over.

Pricing: $18.50-$73

Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden Season Opening

When/ Where: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 2 and 3, at the Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw Boulevard, 63110 

Why go: The family can celebrate spring with a weekend of special activities, entertainment and opening features. Saturday, “Meet Finn the Frog!” at 1 p.m. On Sunday see live birds visiting from the World Bird Sanctuary from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pricing: Tickets to the Children’s Garden are $3 for members ages 3-12 and $5 for non-members.
