Get Your Fit and Sexy On: K.I.S.S. Opens in Florissant

If traditional gyms aren’t your thing, this Florissant business might just have a very sensual solution for you.

Since 45 percent of Americans admit to making New Year’s resolutions, it’s not hard to believe that losing weight is the number one New Year’s resolution made by Americans. And staying fit and healthy is number five, according to Statistic Brain.com.

That means that you (or someone you know) has probably made one or more of those resolutions once, and if you’re like many, the fitness part of that equation can be even harder to swallow than the diet part.

The truth is that a lot of workouts just aren’t that much fun. But there’s good news for open-minded exercisers looking for something a little more exciting: there’s a new alternative in town, and it just opened.

New Florissant Business: The K.I.S.S. Fitness Café & Spa

K.I.S.S. stands for “Keep It Sexy Sistas,” according to the company’s website, and Smith said she was inspired by her mother’s battle with obesity. In addition to starting her own workout program when she was just 15, Smith said that after seeing her mother lose her life due to weight-related health issues, she vowed to make a difference in the lives of others who struggle with obesity.

“Our approach to fitness is we make fitness fun,” says the company motto. “Lose the Excuses and Lose the Weight. If you are alive you can get stronger, healthier and sexier.”

The K.I.S.S. Fitness Café & Spa is unique in several ways.

  • Sexy Workouts—You know all those stripper workouts you’ve been dying to try? They’re all here—and some you probably haven’t heard of yet. Here’s the schedule.
  • Internet Café Smoothie BarFeaturing real fruit-blend smoothies, signature shakes and custom add-ins with protein, fiber and more, the café smoothie bar also offers free Wi-Fi and a gift shop.
  • SaunaInfrared saunas, good for natural healing and prevention, according to the K.I.S.S. website.
  • SpaK.I.S.S. offers affordable massage packages.
  • Private TrainingPersonal trainers offer one-on-one personal training and even private pole dance instruction.

Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

While the studio opened on Jan. 2, the K.I.S.S. Fitness Café & Spa was joined by the Greater North County Chamber on Monday for a special ribbon cutting ceremony on its new location at 2318 N. Lindbergh in Florissant.

Chamber president Carolyn Marty and City of Florissant Mayor Tom Schneider presented owner Kem Smith her chamber membership plaque.

I agree with the points about society and the sexualization of young girls. However, KISS markets to adult women, promotes a love of your body and also holistic health. It is a nurturing environment of women with similar goals and I would recommend anyone to try a class. The pole classes are a small segment of the studios offerings. I have belonged to quite a few gyms, but KISS is the only one I felt motivated to attend on a regular basis. Come by and attend a Boot Camp, Zumba, Pilates, Kettle Bell, Spin or Sculpting class. Your opinion of the place will definitely change.

Pole classes are taught in Clayton. Pole classes are taught in most areas. It is a form of exercising. It promotes muscle strength and endurance. It works out the entire body. It's exercise like all dancing.

Apparently my comment deleted but I'll try again. I think one of the members of the board of the Florissant Chamber of Commerce commenting on Facebook asking if there was a viewing window proves the degradation that Ma. O'Fallon references and I found it disgusting and not at all funny like Ms. Atkinson did. Is there an age limit imposed on the class? I would hope that women under 18 are not allowed so we don't encourage our youth to be overly sexual or teach them that stripping is a good idea. That all being said, I can see where this type of workout would be empowering and hopefully spice up relationships. I would not personally take it but that does not mean I fault women that do. I have heard its an excellent workout. Perhaps the classes could be marketed differently so as not to offend more conservative residents. I do also fault the article because "stripper workouts" just makes it sound tacky and does not give a good impression to anyone reading it.

The web site indicates that 13 is the minimum age for classes, apparently including pole dancing and stripper workouts. Oddly, the web site doesn't include any information about the staff. Are trainers and massage therapists licensed and certified?

This is located on the site under studio policies: "Pole classes are offered to those 18 years and older only; however, for maturity reasons, we highly recommend that those only over the age of 21 consider enrolling."
