Mehlville's Carnival Opens Friday

It is the month of May and that means it's carnival time in Mehlville.

Drive by the and you'll see rides and funnel cake stands growing out of the ground like spring flowers.

For the fifth year, North American Midway Entertainment has set up their carnival for two weeks of fun on the south parking lot of the South County Mall. Under the professional management of structural and mechanical engineer, Michael Hupalo, the final touches are in progress for the May 6 opening.

'The Spinout' is a spectacular new addition to our selection. Riders travel on three planes. Strobe lights, music and high speeds make it a thrilling ride for teens and young adults. Another new ride to try is the 'Alpine Bobs,'" he said.

Food, an important element to the total carnival experience, will be in abundance. Several offerings will be familiar favorites like pizza, corn dogs, cotton candy and funnel cakes. The specialty of North American Midway Entertainment is their selection of gourmet candy apples. Expect both the caramel with nuts and the hard candy-coated varieties. The crisp, tart Granny Smith is the apple of choice.

As to carnival games, Hupalo said, “We have a great variety of games for all ages to enjoy. It is possible to win every one of our games. The attendants will be happy to help the guests as to how to play.”

Wristband plans can be purchased to save money on the rides, Hupalo said. All of the information about special pricing is at the Guest Services booth on the property.

“When we move to a new location, it is like moving a whole community," he said. "The company provides lodging, food, a school with teachers and in-service training in basic carnival practices and safety for the employees. Safety is our main concern. All of our rides conform to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations and undergo state inspections.”
