Oakville Gym Raises Over $2,000 for Local Domestic Violence Shelter

Ellipse Fitness recently held its annual Victory Over Violence fundraiser to benefit A Safe Place, which provides women and children a refuge and assistance in overcoming domestic abuse.

Oakville's Ellipse Fitness has raised more than $2,000 for a Jefferson County domestic violence shelter called A Safe Place.

The gym recently held its annual four-hour fitness fundraiser called Victory Over Violence to benefit the charity. The event featured a four-hour fitness marathon, a silent auction and a raffle.

Ann Morrow, the gym's owner, said this is the fourth year her gym has sponsored the event. She said the founder of the corporate company started doing the event 10 years ago in Wisconsin to help a women's shelter there.

"I like it because it's something different from a run or a regular marathon," Morrow said. "A lot of people just stopped by to donate."

A Safe Place provides battered women and their children a comprehensive treatment process in a safe and secure environment in Jefferson County. It is part of the non-profit group COMTREA, which is headquartered in Festus.
