South County Chamber Honors Members at 'Night With the Stars'

Several notable South County businesses were recognized at the chamber's annual awards banquet.

The South County Chamber of Commerce honored some of its own last week at an event it called "A Night With the Stars."

Some of the biggest stars of the evening included Ambassador of the Year Jeff Durbin, of ServiceMASTER Select, President's Award winner John Carney, talk show host for KTRS Radio, Business Person of the Year Michael Walsh, president of Eagle Bank, and Above and Beyond winner Davis Storms, of Meyer Insurance Services.

Also recognized was 1904 Steak House at River City Casino as Restaurateur of the Year. A Community Recognition Award was given to rapper Nelly, of Extreme Institute by Nelly/Vatterott College. Dorothy Jarvis Kellett received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Several awards were given out for community service, including awards to Mehlville Fire Protection District Firefighter/Paramedic Tom Viviano, St. Louis County Third Precinct Police Officer Eric Middendorf, and St. Louis County Fourth Precinct Police Officer John Spicer and Art Schuermann, of the Missouri National Guard.

A variety of former legislators also received community service awards including former U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, former Missouri Sen. Jim Lembke, former Missouri Rep. Gary Fuhr, former Missouri Rep. Cloria Brown, and former U.S. Rep. Todd Akin.

Gus and Nick Botonis, of Acropolic Property Management, and Miken Technolgies were honored as outstanding new businesses.

Renovation and beautification awards were received by Incredible Pizza, Family Produce, Heritage Salon and Spa and Holiday Inn. New construction awards were received by Dairy Queen, Lodge at Sherbrooke Village, Siteman Cancer Center, Mehlville Engine House #3 and Wendy's.

Shan Herwig and Nicky Arnold both received a Board of Directors Award.
