Super Choice Served up at Super China Buffet

Super, according to Webster’s Dictionary, is something with outstanding or excellent qualities or that is exceptionally large or powerful.  Super China Buffet is just that, offering one of the largest Chinese buffets in the area.

Super China Buffet is located along Michigan Avenue off of Jeffco Boulevard, in Arnold, behind Walmart Water Tower Plaza. Its plain brick façade doesn’t prepare one for its ornate interior, which is accented with carved wooden booths, Chinese lanterns and wall murals. The dining room’s design focus is the buffet.

Filled with more than 80 items, four long tables comprise the buffet that features cold to hot items ranging from spicy to sweet with culinary diversity. Here you’ll find hand-rolled sushi and sashimi to tossed iceberg salad with ranch dressing to fried chicken, barbecue ribs and dim sum. Yet, among the multinational selections, the Chinese dishes remain the specialty.

General Tso's Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Lo Mein are buffet regulars as are Crab Rangoon, Fried Rice and Hot and Sour Soup. On a recent visit, a few more unusual buffet additions were featured such as Spicy Pork, Egg Foo Young and Moo Goo Gai Pan.  A cook bringing out a tray of steamed crab legs mentioned that one can always find something new. 

While not a traditional element to Chinese cuisine, ice creams and cream-filled sheet cakes with the expected fortune and almond cookies are dessert choices. Diners can also order from Super China’s full service bar.

For those not interested in buffet dining, order off the menu.  However, servers are quick to inform that the buffet is the best deal. Dine-in dinner buffet is $10.95 with $5.99 for the carry-out option.
