BACKGROUND:The benefit dinner spreads awareness and raises critical funds for Safe Connections in support of its mission to reduce domestic violence. This year’s speaker is Patrice Billings – the first female police officer in the country to become a helicopter pilot for a law enforcement agency. She was the only pilot allowed in the air on September 11, 2001 to perform anti-terrorism patrol around the St. Louis Gateway Arch and other significant landmarks. She will be sharing how her own life and the lives of so many others have been impacted by the work done at Safe Connections.

Safe Connections is a nonprofit organization specializing in preventing and ending domestic and sexual violence. Since 1976 Safe Connections has been committed to reducing the impact and incidence of relationship violence and sexual assault through education, crisis intervention, counseling and support services.

Verizon is committed to helping the nearly one in four women, one in seven men and more than 3 million children in the United States affected by domestic violence and is doing its part to end this epidemic by collecting no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories and turning them into support for domestic violence organizations nationwide. Through Verizon Wireless’ HopeLine program, Verizon has donated hundreds of thousands of phones and awarded millions of dollars in cash grants to our partner agencies.

“Verizon Wireless has a long-standing commitment to domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy. We believe that Safe Connections is a valuable organization that shows a strong dedication to helping victims of domestic violence and sexual assault become survivors.” says Brendan Fallis, president-Kansas/Missouri region, Verizon Wireless.
