Oakville tied CBC in Game 2 of the Semi Finals Saturday night. Unfortunately, for the Tigers, a tie wasn't enough to push a mini game 3. They needed to win since CBC won the first game. Despite the outstanding efforts of the Tigers, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
It was heartbreaking tie for Oakville. After eliminating Chaminade, who had just recently tied and beat CBC, they knew this could actually be their chance to go all the way to the Challenge Cup Finals.
It was a special year for the Tigers. They had the support of a huge student body that started with about 5 kids coming to the preseason tournament. These kids loved watching their team so much, they talked to their friends, opened a Twitter account (@Oak_hockey_Fans), and started spreading the word. Before you knew it, they were filling the stands to capacity.
The parents, coaches, and club all appreciated the efforts of the fans. But most of all, the team felt this support, and it showed in the way they played. It was a wonderful year for Oakville and I know they'll remember it for years to come. The hardest part is thinking, "we'll get um next year" and looking over at the seniors who will not be returning with you.
We wish the seniors luck in whatever their future has in store for them (hopefully some college hockey). They will be missed. And next year, we hope to see them in the stands, cheering on their old teammates as they try to make it to the Challenge Cup Finals once again. #WAOH
