Good Morning Mehlville: Free Slurpees Today from 7-Eleven

7-11 is celebrating their 84th birthday and giving away free slurpees.

  • Weather: The area is under an excessive heat warning until 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The heat index is supposed to be from 110-115 degrees with a high near 101. Stay cool and drink plenty of water!

  • Gas: Gas prices have increased slightly, with Sam's Club and the Lindbergh and Union Phillips 66 both at $3.52. Mobil, Shell and Sinclair are all at $3.57, according to stlouisgasprices.com

  • Today, 7-Eleven is offering customers a free 7.11-ounce frozen Slurpee drink to help celebrate its 84th birthday. The free Slurpee offer is available until midnight at participating convenience stores while supplies last. As part of the "Slurpee-bration," some locations will offer in-store specials, music, entertainment, prizes and food samplings.

7-Eleven began offering free Slurpees on July 11 on its 75th birthday in 2002, and it's become a big hit with customers. One year, the company gave out 5 million Slurpee drinks in one day.

7-Eleven first began in 1927 when a Southland Ice Company employee started selling bread, milk and eggs on a dock in a Dallas suburb. Today, the chain has 8,600 7-Eleven stores in North America and about 41,500 stores worldwide.

The area has two 7-Eleven stores at 4328 Telegraph Road and 6197 Lemay Ferry Road.
