Welcome to our new column that will help you get through the weekday. Every Monday through Friday at 6 a.m., we'll tell you everything ranging from gas prices and traffic alerts to events around town and stories we're working on.   • Weather: Make sure to take your umbrella with you today. Showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout today. The National Weather Service is predicting a high of around 90 degrees and a low of 70 degrees this evening.
  • Gas: The Lindbergh and Union Phillips 66 gas stations have the lowest gas prices at $3.31 per gallon, according to stlouisgasprices.com. Meanwhile, gas is $3.32 per gallon at Sam's Club at Lemay Ferry Road and Mehl Avenue.
  • Local news: A Mehlville teen is set to audition for "American Idol," and a Mehlville mom weighs in on a controversial "Redbook Magazine" article on a mother's disdain for her own child.
  • Traffic: Heading downtown? Two lanes were closed on eastbound Interstate 70 between Shreve and West Florissant in downtown St. Louis Sunday for repairs to a sewer line. Only one lane on the interstate will remain open for Monday morning’s commute. The entrance ramp to eastbound I-70 from Shreve/Bircher also remains closed.
