Students Show Spirit at Fun Walk/Run

The Mehlville/Oakville Foundation celebrated its 22nd annual Fun Walk/Run Saturday at Jefferson Barracks.

was ablaze with color on Saturday morning as approximately 40 runners and 700 walkers took to the fitness trail in their school colors for the 22nd annual Mehlville/Oakville Foundation Fun Walk/Run. The Fun Walk/Run is one of the major fundraisers for the foundation, and according to the event's co-organizer Sandy Applegate, it raised around $5,000 for educational projects in the district.

The morning began with a 5K run, followed by an intense school spirit competition with schools singing or doing cheers, and a fun walk to wrap-up the morning.

Fourteen schools were represented in the spirit competition, and several awards were presented. Awards were also given to the first place male and female runners in the 5K race, as well as to the top three male and female runners in each age brackets.
