Church's Chicken, Berix Receive Health Inspections

We're debuting a new column that reports how restaurants fair on health inspections.

Patch examined inspection reports in Mehlville, Oakville and Affton from Jan. 20 to Jan. 24. Information has been compiled using publicly available data published to the website of the . 

Restaurants are rated on a scale of A to C, with A being the best. Inspectors also give a score indicating the percentage of compliance with inspection standards. 

Unless otherwise noted, all inspections were conducted on a routine basis.

Inspection date: Jan. 20
Grade: A (99)
Comments: The dishwasher area hand sink soap dispenser was empty, which the manager corrected. The sugar sack was also open.

Bob Evan’s Restaurant, 6528 S. Lindbergh Boulevard
Inspection date: Jan. 23
Grade: A (99)
Comments: This inspection was the result of a complaint to the health department. The sewer gas was leaking into the entire unit front. The back of the house was closed for one week to repipe under the floor to correct.

Syberg’s Restaurant, 7802 Gravois Road
Inspection date: Jan. 23
Grade: A (98)
Comments: Found some items without date marking which the manager corrected. Found torn gaskets on the pizza drop pan unit and no test kit on site for the bar sink.

, 5406 Southfield Center
Inspection date: Jan. 24
Grade: A (98)
Comments: The hand sink did not have towels and the range pipes and shelving areas were full of dripping grease build-up. Also, bread and pasta were found in the walk-in cooler and dry stock area without wrapping or cover for protection.

Grade: A (95)
Comments: The facility was not able to provide Hepatitis A vaccination documents for all employees.

Church’s Chicken, 1200 Lemay Ferry Road
Inspection date: Jan. 24
Grade: A (96)
Comments: This was a follow-up inspection to a previous routine inspection where employees could not verify their Hepatitis A vaccination. As of Jan. 24, three employees had one shot and one employee had no shots. The manager has agreed to require non-compliant employees to produce proof of required shots by Jan. 30 or they will be taken from the shift. A second follow-up is pending.
