Should Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery Expand?

A St. Louis County veterans group has asked the St. Louis County Council for its support in the expansion of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery into nearby Sylvan Springs Park.

The cemetery could run out of room by 2025, and an expanion into the 55-acre park could provide burial space for another 25 to 30 years.

Alan Creek, whose parents are both buried at the historic cemetery, says he wants Jefferson Barracks to expand. "JB is noted as one of the best-run national cemeteries," he posted on Mehlville-Oakville Patch's Facebook page.

Stephanie Valleroy - Strongly agree. My father, Vietnam veteran, deserves to be buried there.

RATFINKFAN - Get rid of Wal-Mart and the rest of the mall there. My father is buried in the flat stone section right next to the Wal-Mart parking lot. What a shame veterans who fought and died for this country are buried 30 ft from that mess. It is a disgrace.

Maggie Madonia - Doesn't Walmart have to give up the property if they run out? In a way I hate to see the park go for the kids that live in the near by apartments. If this is the only option by all means the veterans come first.
