MERS/Goodwill Collected Nearly 1.2 Million Donations in 2012
Not-for-Profit Organization Achieves Record Numbers
Despite the ups and downs of the economy, MERS/Goodwill set yet another record this year, collecting a grand total of 1,194,452 donations by close of business December 31, 2012. The not-for-profit organization reached out to the community for support throughout the year to achieve its goal, asking supporters in the bi-state region for gently used clothing, shoes, accessories, books, housewares, furniture and electronics.
“This was another record year for our organization. We set out to exceed last year’s donations early in 2012 which were just under 1.1 million,” said Dr. Lewis Chartock, President and CEO of MERS/Goodwill. “This year we are excited to have surpassed last year with the help of the entire community. We thank the local community for their continuous support and generosity, without whom we would not achieve such goals.”
The collected donations are sold in the 41 retail locations throughout the bi-state area. The money generated from the sales is then used to support MERS/Goodwill’s employment and rehabilitation programs. The programs provide individuals in the community with the training to achieve productivity and employment in their life. In 2012, MERS/Goodwill’s served more than 40,000 clients, all benefiting from the revenue of donations sold, in addition to grants and other funding throughout the year.
