MEAAA Senior Center Meal Program NEEDS your vote!

South County Senior Center has been nominated for a $20,000 grant from Monsanto "Grow St. Louis" Program and needs your vote!

The South County Senior Center has been nominated to receive a $20,000 grant from Monsanto "Grow St. Louis".  There are many worthy causes in the running but the center hopes you'll cast your vote for them.  Our mission is to assist adults on the journey of aging.  "We want to provide the best environment for our community elders and that includes nutritionally balanced meals for the homebound".

Voting will take place at www.facebook.com/growstlouis from May 6 through May 19.  You can vote once each day!   If you’re not on Facebook, you can mail in your vote for: MEAAA South County Senior Resource Center, Senior Meal Program.  Include your name and address and mail to: Monsanto Grow St. Louis - C/O Paradowski Creative, 349 Marshall Ave., Rm. 200, St. Louis, MO  63119.

The senior center provides meals, a variety of activities and important services for persons age 60+.  One of the most important services provided by the center is a daily hot, nutritionally balanced meal including home delivered meals (Meals on Wheels) for frail, homebound seniors.  All meals and services are provided on a contribution basis!  The grant will be used toward making the building handicap accessible, improving the parking lot and most importantly, providing daily hot meals to seniors in need. Unfortunately the agency's nutrition budget is facing a huge cut.  This isn't the first time the meal funds have suffered; in the last 3 years state and federal government has cut almost $1 million from the MEAAA Meals on Wheels in St. Louis!  Despite a continued rise in need and increase in the cost of food, supplies, gasoline, etc... the agency expects an approximate cut of $255,000.  This will result in a loss of over 34,000 meals!  Currently the South County Senior Center provides meals and services to over 150 seniors and delivers meals to over 120 homebound.  The center's receives an average of 3 calls per day for persons in need of Meals on Wheels services.  The average participant contribution is less than $1.  Major cuts to the budget and with out other sources of funding our community elders in need will suffer the most!
