2-Hour Rescue Search on Meramec River Yields No Results

Emergency crews responded to a call on Sunday from someone who thought they saw a person in distress in the water. However, authorities were unable to find anything amiss.

After an exhaustive two-hour search on the Meramec River Sunday, emergency responders weren't able to find anyone in distress

Ron Harder, a spokesman with the Rock Community Fire Protection District, said the district received a call around 11 a.m. from someone who thought they saw a person in distress in the water.

"When crews got there, they didn't see anything out of the ordinary, and there were no bystanders around," Harder said. "They did a complete sweep up and down the Meramec for two hours, and then determined it to be unfounded."

The Saline Valley Fire Protection District assisted in the call, Harder said. Crews did not do any underwater dives.

"We take every call very seriously," Harder said. "If you see anything or think you see something - even when you're in doubt - always call us. It's our job to investigate."
