Apartment Fire, Power Lines Down from Sunday's Storm

No one was injured Sunday night, but the area saw damage and an apartment fire as a result of the storm.

Mehlville firefighters responded to double the amount of calls Sunday as a severe thunderstorm broke nine days of 100-degree heat. 

No one was injured at an apartment fire at the on Swiss Walk. The cause of the fire was a possible lightening strike, said Deputy Chief Dan La Fata with the Mehlville Fire Protection District.

La Fata said the district responds to an average of 35 alarms per day. Sunday, they responded to 70 alarms, 56 between the hours of 5 and 10 p.m. The majority of the calls were storm-related, including down power lines.

, Ameren Missouri reported 4,028 were without power in the 63129 zip code, 1,940 were without power in 63125 and 1,253 were without power in 63128. Most residents received electricity around 2 a.m. Monday. 

As of 11 a.m., 116 residents in Oakville and 212 residents in Mehlville and Lemay are still out of power.
