A man faces criminal charges after police said he tried to assault an officer and then a security guard at a local hospital.
Michael Federhofer, 34, of the 100 block of West Etta Avenue in Lemay, was charged Friday with assaulting a law enforcement officer, third-degree assault, resisting arrest and driving with a revoked license.
said they pulled over Federhofer at 639 Gravois Bluffs Boulevard in Fenton at 11:45 p.m. Thursday for an outstanding arrest warrant. Police said in a report that Federhofer got out of his vehicle, yelled at the officer and then swung at him.
Later, at , police said Federhofer "caused contact with a security officer" at the hospital. He was charged with third-degree assault for the contact.
Officer Rick Eckhard, a spokesman for St. Louis County Police, in responding to questions about Federhofer's injuries, said the suspect got into a fist fight with the arresting officer.
"He had to be thrown to the ground, where he continued to struggle with officers," Eckhard said. "I think his injuries are consistent with that. He resisted arrest. They also had to use a taser on him."
He said as a matter of procedure, the St. Louis County Police Department reviews any use of force by its officer to determine if the officer's actions were appropriate.
"Once he was restrained, brought under control and placed in handcuffs, the use of force stopped," Eckhard said. "(Federhofer) has not come forward with any allegations."
Bond was set at $20,000 on Federhofer.
