Man Assaults Mother, Takes Car, Crashes into Seven Holy Founders Building

The woman told police her son returned without the car and told her he ran into a building.

A 35-year-old man assaulted his mother, took her car keys, stole her car and later drove it into the former Seven Holy Founders School building in Affton Tuesday, police said.

William Hoffee, 35, of the 4900 block of Fyler Avenue in South St. Louis, was charged Wednesday with second-degree robbery, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest.

St. Louis County Police said Hoffee assaulted his mother at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 9900 block of Pointe South Drive in the Concord area of South St Louis County. He then took her car keys and debit card and left in her vehicle, police said.

He was driving on South Rock Hill Road near the Seven Holy Founders School at about 5 a.m. when the car left the roadway and struck the building, according to the police report. The building had more than $1,000 in damages.

His mother told police he returned home about 6 a.m. without the car and told her he was in an accident in which he ran into a building.

Police reported that when they tried to arrest Hoffee, he resisted and struggled with officers.

Hoffee is being held in St. Louis County jail. Bail was set at $35,000.
