Man Charged in Hit and Run Near River City Casino

Alfred Hargrove crashed a car, in which his child was also riding, while attempting to flee police near the casino on Thursday.

A St. Louis man has been charged with fleeing police and causing a violent crash that seriously injured his son in a Thursday accident.

Alfred Hargrove, 29, of the 2300 block of Virginia Avenue in St. Louis, was charged with second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting a traffic stop by fleeing and two counts of third-degree assault.

The boy's uncle Richard Dillworth told the St. Louis Post Dispatch the child, whose name is Ahmad, is recovering at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center.

Hargrove crashed on South Broadway and Marceau Street about 3:05 p.m. Thursday, according to police. A St. Louis County police officer was parked at Broadway and River City Casino Boulevard when he saw a Nissan Altima speed by on Broadway. The officer pulled out to try to stop the speeding car, but Hargrove fled the officer and crashed.
