Motel 6 Standoff Ends Without Incident

The Tactical Operations Unit was able to talk the suspect out of the hotel.

A standoff that lasted nearly five hours ended without incident Thursday at the Motel 6 on Lindbergh Boulevard.

At 11:30 a.m., St. Louis County Police officers from the Affton precinct arrived at the hotel with a warrant for a male suspect. The man did not respond and locked himself inside when officers knocked on the door.

Officers called in the Tactical Operations Unit, who completed a thorough search of the hotel and were able to talk the man out of the building without incident around 4 p.m., said media relations officer Rick Eckhard.

Police believed the suspect attempted to assault a police officer while driving a stolen vehicle Saturday night.

An officer tried to pull over a stolen truck at 9:30 p.m. on Tesson Ferry Road near Southmoor Apartments, when the truck backed into the police car and the suspect fled. Law enforcement found the truck in a creek bed later that night. Three stolen guns were in the truck.

In what Eckhard said was “good, old-fashioned police work,” officers from the Affton precinct followed several leads that led them to the Motel 6 Thursday.

“We were of the assumption the individual may be armed since we found three stolen guns in the truck that he abandoned a few nights ago,” Eckhard said.

When initially approaching the hotel, police saw a woman leaving the room. The woman was detained for her own safety, Eckhard said.

No further information is available at this time on the suspect or woman that was detained.
