The man is facing charges related to defying an order of protection that protected his wife, St. Louis County police say.

An Oakville man faces charges related to defying an order of protection that protected his wife, police said.

Robert Stockwood, 53, of Oakville, was charged Feb. 22 with violating a protection order and resisting arrest.

St. Louis County Police said Stockwood had been served with an order of protection Feb. 17, prohibiting him from communicating with his wife or being at her home in the 4400 block of Forder Oaks Drive in Oakville.

Police said he entered the home through an unlocked door and begged his wife to let him stay at the house. The woman told police she didn’t call for help because she was afraid, but left the home.

She returned several hours later and ordered him to leave, but Stockwood went to the bathroom where she found him with a shotgun writing a suicide note.

Police arrived, but Stockwood refused to open the bathroom door. When officers forced their way into the bathroom, Stockwood kicked his feet and swung his elbows, according to the report.

He also said he would find the officers and kill them.

An officer shot him with a Taser to subdue Stockwood. Officers said he continued the threats at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, where he was taken for treatment.

According to a court document, police had been at the home six times since Jan. 14 in responding to domestic calls.

Stockwood filed 10 percent of a $10,000 bond Feb. 28 and was released from the St. Louis County Justice Center.
