"Now it's a matter of waiting for the tow truck from St. Louis County Police," Mehlville Fire Chief Tim White said.

The highway will be fully open again once the wreckage is cleared.

It is unclear what caused the accident, but one van overturned and another went into the guardrail.

White said the occupants climbed out of the cars on their own with no injuries.
