South County Fire Districts Switching Emergency Dispatch Services

Crestwood and Affton, Fenton, Lemay and Mehlville fire districts will join the Central County Emergency dispatch system July 1.

Several South County fire districts will work with a new dispatching service starting this summer.

Mehlville, Affton, Fenton, and Lemay fire districts, which currently use the South County Fire Alarm Association, will move to Central County Emergency 911, effective July 1, Suburban Journals reports. Crestwood Fire Department is also switching, according to the report.

The Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors approved their contract with Central County Emergency 911 in November, according to Call Newspapers.

Mehlville Fire Chief Brian Hendricks said the contract would bring more up-to-date technology to fire and medical personnel, and told Call that response times would decrease.

South County Fire Alarm Association, a non-profit run by the Mehville Fire District board, will close, according to Suburban Journals. Twelve individuals employed by South County Fire Alarm could be moved, according to the report.
