Teen Charged with Church, Day Care Break-ins
In the four burglaries, a wheelchair and two computers were stolen and buildings had at least $1,800 in property damage, police said.
A South County teenager faces criminal charges for church and day care burglaries from October 2011 through January.
Michael Schwerdtfeger, 17, of the 5100 block of Deerfield Circle Drive, was charged Aug. 28 with four counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of stealing, and first-degree property damage.
St. Louis County Police said Schwerdtfeger and others participated in the following burglaries:

- Between 3 p.m. Oct. 1 and 8:14 a.m. Oct. 2 at , 4966 Towne South Road. A wheelchair was stolen.
- Between 7 p.m. Dec. 29 and 6:15 a.m. Dec. 30 at KinderCare, 12727 Tesson Ferry Road. A laptop and desktop computers valued at $1,300 were stolen, and holes were punctured in the drywall. Damages totaled $1,800.
- Between 10 a.m. Jan. 7 and 8:15 a.m. Jan. 8 at Prince of Peace United Church of Christ. Police said Schwerdtfeger and others broke in to damage property.
- Between 6:40 p.m. Jan. 12 and 6 a.m. Jan. 13 at , 12836 Tesson Ferry Road. Police said Schwerdtfeger and others broke in to steal items.
Bond was set at 50,000.
Schwerdtfeger also was charged in February with a Jan. 18 burglary and theft.
