Filing Opens for Two School Board Positions

Two positions are open on the Mehlville school board in the April election.

The holidays aren’t the only event in December with filing for local April elections beginning Dec. 13.

The Mehlville School District Board of Education has two positions available for three-year terms in the April election.

Those two positions are currently held by Tom Diehl and Ron Fedorchak. Diehl was elected to the board in 2006 and was reelected in 2009. He served as Board President from 2007 to 2011.

When asked if he will run again, Diehl said, “I haven’t finalized that decision yet.”

The current board to his position after former board member out of the district and resigned. After an application and interview process in July, the board chose Fedorchak out of .

“I’m about 95 percent certain I will run (in April),” Fedorchak told Patch. “I think the position’s pretty important and there’s a lot of work to be done.”

Fedorchak said he has the support of his family and wants to continue working on science and technology as well as teachers’ salaries.

“I’ve talked to most of the other directors and they’ve supported me continuing on,” he said.

Residents can file for the election at the in the Central Office building, 3120 Lemay Ferry Road between the hours of 8 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 13 and Jan. 17.

From Dec. 14 to Jan. 13, Monday through Friday, filing times are from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The office will be closed Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. through Jan. 1 for winter break and on Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The office will also be closed when school is canceled for inclement weather.

Eligible candidates must be: 

  • A U.S. Citizen
  • A taxpayer of the Mehlville School District
  • A resident of Missouri for one year preceding his or her election
  • 24 years old
