Funeral Honors Program Performs 100,000th Ceremony

The National Guard Funeral Honors program held the ceremony at Jefferson Barracks.

A solemn milestone, the Missouri National Guard Funeral Honors Program honored their 100,000th veteran at  Tuesday. 

Founded in July 1999, the program performs ceremonies for every Missouri veteran from any branch of the military who died while serving or was honorably discharged. 

The honor teams consist of Army and Air National Guard soldiers and members of veterans' service organizations. They perform an average of 25 funerals a day.

Tuesday, the unit , 36, of St. Louis. Deal died of a brain tumor and was deployed to both Iraq and Kosovo. He served with the 3175th Chemical Company, headquartered at Jefferson Barracks. 

“Sgt. Deal was an asset to our unit,” said 1st Lt. Gregory Stueve, the 3175th commander in a release. “When it comes to noncommissioned officers, you couldn’t have done better than Anthony Deal. He will be sorely missed.”
