Recount Announced in Second Congressional District for Oakville Democrat

Harold Whitfield, former Kirkwood city councilor and municipal judge, has asked for a recount in the race for the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District. Unofficial results showed Oakville's Glenn Koenen winning by 49 votes.

The Missouri Secretary of State's office has 20 days to certify a recount for the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District in which unofficial election results show Harold Whitfield, of , losing to Glenn Koenen, of Oakville, by 49 votes. 

The Secretary of State's office received an official request for a recount from Whitfield Tuesday, according to Sarah Jorgenson of the office's communications and publications division. 

 that he knew the race would be close, and expected the recount, but does not think the results will change.

"With the technology of these ballots in St. Louis County, I have confidence the votes won't move far enough to change the results," he said. "I'm very grateful for the support I received from groups like the St. Louis Metropolitan Food Pantry Association and people in Valley Park and Oakville."

The winner of the Democratic nomination race for the 2nd Congressional District will face Ann Wagner in the November elections who won the Republican nomination by a landslide.
