Two School Board Candidates Raise More Than $2,000

Mehlville School Board Candidates Elaine Powers and Rich Franz raised the most campaign money for Tuesday's election.

Mehlville school board candidates and have raised the most campaign funds out of nine candidates.

Powers raised $3,315 including a last-minute $300 contribution from the Ironworkers Local Union No. 396. She also received $300 from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union No. 562 and several contributions from individuals, which were $50 and $25 each.

Powers spent $2,793.80 of that money, with $1,638.21 going to Creative Litho Inc. for printing and yard signs.

Mehlville Citizens for Franz came in with $2,830.50 in contributions, the largest amount coming from Franz himself with $1,000. Franz also received $200 from Sen. Jim Lembke and $50.58 from the Mehlville Community Taxpayers Association between Feb. 19 and March 24.

Franz spent $2,339.05, with $1,690.84 going to three companies for printing, graphics and promotional products. He also spent $500 in advertising.

Candidates can either file with the St. Louis County Board of Elections or online with the Missouri Ethics Commission. They do not have to file if they spend or collect less than $1,000, unless they receive more than $325 from a single contributor. Figures reported are from the candidates’ financial reports eight days before the election.

Donations of more than $25 must provide a name and address with their contribution, unless the donation was obtained at a fundraising event.

reported raising $1,675, with a $1,000 loan and $535 from persons giving $100 or less and $140 from anonymous persons.

came in at $1,077, including a $150 contribution from current board member Venki Palamand and $485 from a fundraiser. She reported spending $1,082.88, of which $854.88 went to printing with Trio Graphics and $228 in advertising.

Mark Stoner and came in under the $1,000 contribution mark for the election.

The Committee to Elect raised $940, including $100 from fellow candidate Rich Franz and $200 from Sen. Lembke. Stoner reported spending $1,488.21, of which $900 went to City Graphics on mailers and $500 for advertising.

The Committee to Elect Marea Kluth-Hoppe raised $650, with a $400 contribution from Kluth-Hoppe herself and $50 coming from persons donating $100 or less and a $200 loan. She spent $67.39 on printing.
