South County Walmart Plan Voted Down by Planning Commission

The St. Louis County Planning and Zoning Commission voted Monday against a rezoning request that would have paved the way for a 24-hour Walmart grocery store, KMOX-AM reports.

A rezoning request by Walmart to build a 41,000 square-foot grocery store at Tesson Ferry and Butler Hill roads has been denied - for now at least.

The St. Louis County Planning and Zoning Commission voted against the request at its meeting Monday, KMOX-AM reports. The commission's chairman said the county was seeking a more "low usage of the property" as opposed to a 24-hour grocery store.

It would have been Walmart's first "neighborhood market" store in the St.Louis area. .
