Kids Learn to Dance and Twirl at Mehlville Summer Camps

The Pantherettes and Majorettes hosted camp for aspiring dancers and twirlers.

More than 90 mini dancers and twirlers took the stage Thursday to close the Mehlville High School Pantherette and Majorette summer camps.

The Pantherettes spent three days teaching the tips and tricks of dance to girls kindergarten through eighth grade. The theme was Candyland and on Thursday, family and friends came to watch their final performances. The girls, broken up by ages, danced to candy-themed songs like "Lollipop" by the Chordettes and "I Want Candy," by Aaron Carter.

The Majorettes camp, whose theme was Fun in the Sun, taught girls basic twirling skills. They ended with routines full of tossing and twirling.

The Roussin family's two daughters attended both of the camps.

"I liked the Majorettes because I always wanted to do it, I was just afraid," said Annie, 8.

Kelly Roussin, the girls' mother said the schools did a good job of communicating the camp to parents.

"This is our second year in the district and it's great for the kids to do before going back to school," she said.
