New Alumni Choir Sings High School Memories

The Mehlville School District is offering a choir class for district alumni.

Mehlville and Oakville residents are reliving their high school music days through a new class offered by the Mehlville School District’s Community Education Department.

The 16-week Alumni Choir class is taught by Mehlville and Oakville high school choral directors Angie Hendrick and Paula Martin. Filled with 97 district alumni, the class spans 20 years of choirs.

“They all loved to sing with Paula and I when they were in high school,” Hendrick said in a district release. “After they graduated, many would talk to us about how much they missed it. They told us we should have a community choir so they could sing with us again.”

The two teachers created the class through the Mehlville Community Education Department and meet Monday nights to sing music from all ages and genres.

“The best part is rediscovering their favorite pieces, laughing about old memories, working with adult voices, and not having to write any passes, count tardies or keep attendance,” Martin said. “We can just make music!”
